Electric Formula

Supporting the next generation of engineers

At Cubik Innovation we are always keen to lend a hand wherever we can. Over the years, we have supported several students through internships, provided work experience placements and helped with live projects.

When Guy Barkley, an engineering student from the University of Bath, got in touch to tell us about an exciting project he and his peers were working on, we jumped at the chance to help. Team Bath Racing Electric (TBRe) is made up of a group of current 3rd year undergraduate engineering students designing a single seat, open wheeled electric race car. The design and development of the race car, as well as integrating an element of business studies, forms part of their course.

Guy and his colleagues, Sam Bath and Aaron Forward, designed two separate printed circuit boards (PCB’s) for the car. One PCB for power management and one PCB which would be mounted directly onto the dashboard for indication. Cubik Innovation took receipt of the completed design files and manufactured the board at our in-house facility.

Six months later, TBRe had completed the car build and competed in the Institute of Mechanical Engineers Formula Student event at Silverstone.

TeamBath Electric SponsorsUnfortunately, the team did not make it through scrutineering. But were the only UK team to have a car that ran a PCB putting them ahead of the competition, electrically speaking. The team continued to develop the car so that they could compete in the Class 2 design event at Silverstone and other Formula Student events globally.

Electronic design
