All the latest events and developments.

In 2015, a young Cubik Innovation was awarded ‘Start-Up Business of the Year’ at the BristolLive & BristolPost Awards. Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength and we were delighted to be able to return to this year’s awards, not only as category sponsors but also as finalists for the Best Engineering or Manufacturing Award.

As a category sponsor for the Best Tech Business Award, Managing Director Paul Mullen was invited to be part of the judging panel, tasked with the unenviable job of shortlisting the high number of deserving entries across all categories.

About his experience as a judge, Paul said, “I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the business awards judging panel. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the amazing businesses across the region, many of whom I wasn’t aware of, and the pioneering work they do.”

On Wednesday 26 June, nine of our Cubites put on their best glad rags and headed to Ashton Gate Stadium to celebrate the success of those who have excelled in the field of business. Businesses from every industry were represented across the 14 different categories, from technology to food wholesalers, all hoping to be crowned winners including the coveted award for Business of the Year.

The evening began with a drinks reception before heading into a packed-out Lansdown Suite to take our seats for the ceremony. The first award of the evening was for the Best Tech Business Award which saw Bristol based companies The Pixel and Ultrahaptics go up against each other. Our very own Paul Mullen took to the stage to present the award and announce The Pixel as this year’s winners. The Pixel is a Magento Enterprise Solution Partner who provide design, development, integration and support for Magento eCommerce. The judges were so impressed with Ultrahaptics, they awarded them highly commended for the sensational work they do with cutting edge virtual touch technology.

After just two more awards, it was time for the Best Engineering or Manufacturing Award, sponsored by Quantum Advisory. As an introduction to the winning company was delivered, smiles spread across the Cubik table as we realised what was about to happen. Smiles quickly turned to cheers (and clapping and shouting) as we were officially announced as this year’s winners.

After being awarded start up of the year back in 2015, this award is a testament to how far Cubik has come and the rapid growth and success we have experienced in the last 4 years. Having started out with just one engineer in a converted office, we now employ over 24 members of staff and our in-house manufacturing facility is the largest department at Cubik HQ.

This year’s keynote speaker was Helena Langdon, Head of Digital and Communities at Innocent Drinks. Sharing some of her most successful social posts and campaigns to date, Helena entertained the crowds with her hilarious approach to social media, discussing how important it is to not take yourself too seriously and to communicate openly and naturally. Including our favourite anecdote about how Innocent hijacked Apple’s new phone launch with the launch of their new apple juice!

More awards followed and as the evening came to an end, it was time for the final and most coveted award of the evening – Business of the Year. Following the heartwarming tale of how the business began in 1960, food wholesaler Arthur David was announced 2019 Business of the Year. The crowd erupted and got to their feet to give two-time winner, Arthur David, a thoroughly well-deserved standing ovation.

We’d like to thank BristolLive, Bristol Post, Reach Events Plc, the organisers and judges for a wonderful evening.

Finally, congratulations to all our fellow winners from this year’s awards:
