CUBIK TIMELINE

1989
Having spent his childhood developing his passion for electronics, Paul Mullen created Panik Technology.

He quickly acquired an enviable reputation for delivering electronic design services to inventors, emerging businesses, and corporations across the South West and beyond.
2010
After 21 years, Paul makes the decision to sell Panik Technology and goes in search of his next venture, a business that offers a complete product development experience.
2012
Cubik Innovation is established, and the business takes up residence at the Bristol & Bath Science Park, a hub of science, technology, and innovation in South Gloucestershire.

With a team of three, Cubik Innovation Ltd officially opened its books on Monday 3 September 2012.
2013
Cubik Innovation is awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification for it’s Quality Management System (QMS), demonstrating our commitment to continually monitoring, managing, and improving the quality of our products and services.
2014
Following a successful 18 months, Cubik takes on a second laboratory space at the Science Park.

The team sets to work building an ESD controlled manufacturing facility and recruits a team of production engineers. Cubik begins to batch build and ship products, offering customers a complete end to end service.
2015
In recognition of Cubik’s extraordinary growth and contribution to Bristol’s technology sector, Cubik is awarded Start Up Business of the Year at the Bristol Post Business Awards 2015.
2016
Having experienced a significant period of growth, Cubik relocates to Verona House in Fishponds, Bristol.

The 4,750 square foot office is specially designed to accommodate a greater production space for prototype and batch manufacture, reflecting the growing demand in the UK.
2017
Cubik increases its production resources by upgrading from a Versatronics RVs to the latest in batch manufacturing from Germany, with a Fritsch PlaceALL 510.  

We added a second YESTEK AOI and Assconn Quicky 450 Vapourphase oven giving us the capability to offer larger batches and faster lead times.  
2019
After winning Start Up Business of the Year in 2015, Cubik return to the BristolPost & BristolLive Awards as winners of the Best Engineering and Manufacturing Business, establishing Cubik as a leading consultancy in the South West tech industry.

2019
Sam Beard is appointed as Operations Director and joins Paul as co-director of Cubik Innovation.

The change in directorship signifies an important change in the company’s structure and the future of the business.

2020
Internal promotions result in a full management team for the first time in Cubik history. The change in structure gives the business greater stability and helps set clearly defined goals that will drive the business forward.

Ian Binder joins the team as Business Development Manager.
2022
Cubik invests in a Fritsch PA520 pick and place system, adding a third production line to the manufacturing line up.

Able to place up to 4,000 components per hour and with intelligent software and up to 200 kitting slots, the new addition increase productivity and efficiency.

In September, the team celebrate a decade of Cubik Innovation.
2023
Sam Beard takes over from Paul Mullen as Managing Director of Cubik Innovation.

Paul takes on the new role of Founder and Technical Consultant, as will continue to provide support and guidance to the Senior Management Team.

Founder and Technical Consultant

Paul’s childhood passion for electronics has led to a successful career spanning three decades and giving rise to Cubik Innovation. He is experienced in all areas of the development lifecycle and specialises in supporting products through regulatory certification.

Fun fact
Paul is the oracle on forgotten 80’s bands.
Sam
Managing Director

Sam’s knowledge and experience come from working his way up the ladder. He is the glue that holds us together linking the business, design, and production teams and drives the business forward one strategic step at a time.

Fun fact
Sam has an unhealthy obsession with Land Rovers.
Steve
Production Manager

Steve is an IPC-A-610 certified specialist engineer with a background in mechanical assembly. His instinctive knowledge of how things work helped him hone his craft and progress from Production Engineer to Production Manager.

Fun fact
Steve is an identical twin.
Shannon
Quality and Design Engineer

Shannon joined the team as an apprentice and has worked her way up to design engineer, specialising in PCB layout and schematics. She combines her design skills with her love for processes to lead our quality assurance programme.

Fun fact
Shannon had relatives onboard RMS Titanic.
Dominik
Senior Production Engineer

Dominik is an IPC-A-610 certified engineer and brings experience and expertise from a variety of technical roles. He is skilled in all areas of electronic manufacturing and has a talent for wave soldering and high-end modifications.

Fun fact
Dominik is a keen fisherman.
Josh
Production Engineer

Josh is an IPC-A-610 certified engineer with a background in the automotive sector. A biker by nature, Josh has a built-in instinct for how to fit things together and enjoys tackling some of our more challenging projects.

Fun fact
Josh rode his bike up and down Mount Snowdon.
Mercedes
Office & HR Manager

Mercedes' love of organisation and passion for processes ensures the office runs like clockwork. She combines her academic background in product development together with her clerical skills to support our business, design, and production teams.

Fun fact
Mercedes played for Bristol Rovers Women’s Development Squad.
Alicia
Project Manager

Having joined the team as an apprentice, Alicia has learned her craft from the ground up. An excellent communicator, she uses her skills to build strong relationships and a communicative link between customer and project.

Fun fact
Alicia once worked at a children’s summer camp in the USA.
Marijan
Senior Design Engineer

Marijan brings a wealth of experience in mechanical design, FEM analysis, thermodynamic calculations, RF electronics, PCB design and rapid prototyping. He mixes expertise with intellectual curiosity to make sure we’ve explored every possible avenue for our customers.

Fun fact
Marijan is a self-proclaimed petrol head.
Jake
Apprentice Production Engineer

Jake is studying for a BENg (Hons) in Electronic and Computer Engineering at the University of the West of England (UWE). Passionate about electronics, he is developing his skills across the board but has a talent for mechanical assembly and troubleshooting software issues.

Fun fact
When he was little, Jake built a go-kart from scratch.
Molly
Marketing Executive

Molly is an experienced marketeer with a background in construction and insurance. Naturally creative, she uses her skills to create multi-channel campaigns that showcase Cubik’s services and unique tone of voice.

Fun fact
Molly can ‘rap’ the lyrics to too many Will Smith songs.
James
Senior Production Engineer

James is an IPC-A-610 certified engineer and brings years of technical experience to the team. He is skilled in surface mount technology, through hole assembly, manual rework and has a flare for high end modifications.

Fun fact
James plays the drums in high energy rock band, Fransen Effect.
Aaron
Senior Design Engineer

Aaron brings a wealth of experience in electronic and PCB design and is skilled in digital and analogue electronics, RF electronics and high reliability design. A compulsive problem solver, he enjoys creating solutions for our customer’s problems.

Aaron coaches’ adult and youth athletics.
